The Family - Jackson & Dominic

Tangulia Mara camp is the only luxury camp in the Mara that is a hundred percent locally owned and run. The directors are Jackson Looseyia and Dominic Nchoe, who were born and raised within the Maasai Mara area. This makes the camp the ultimate destination for anyone who hopes to experience the Mara from the roots.

Dominic Nchoe is a seasoned businessman with many years of experience in camp management. He owned another camp at the same location before his partnership with Jackson and has a deep understanding of the Maasai Mara. A devoted conservationist, Dominic was involved in the establishment of the Lemek Conservancy and he currently sits on the management board.

Jackson Looseyia is a highly acclaimed safari guide with over 25 years of experience guiding in the Mara. Jackson was born in the Maasai Mara in 1967 and went to school in the area. Jackson was first employed as a night guard and then a tracker, following in his father’s footsteps. It was soon obvious that Jackson had a deep passion and great talent for tracking and guiding and became the first Maasai guide in the Mara.

Having grown up in the area, he has a deep understanding of every nook and cranny in the Mara and a penchant for safari that is hard to miss. In 2008, Jackson became co presenter for the very successful Big Cat series in the big budget ‘Big Cat Live’ and since then has gone on to play an important role in many big screen productions including Disney’s African Cats, Planet Earth and a variety of wildlife productions.

He is married to Ann and together they have five children. His daughter, Damaris, has recently joined the team at Tangulia Mara.

Damaris Nailantei Looseyia is Jackson’s first born and now, acting camp manager at Tangulia Mara Camp. She has a sincere love for the Mara and its environs; something she has been privileged to learn first hand from her father. A graduate from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Damaris holds a second class honours degree, with a major in Finance. She enjoys getting out of camp and savours every moment she can get way from her “office”. Thrilled to be part of the family business, she dreams of making Tangulia bigger and better in years to come!
