The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with a sitting room and open fireplace at one end, while at the other end is a large family dining table where the evening meals are served, hosted by Calum and Sophie Macfarlane. There is a large shaded veranda extending away from the main house with a comfortable seating area from which you can enjoy a cool afternoon drink and soak in the very special atmosphere of Lewa House. Beautiful shaded gardens surround the house and breakfast is often served alfresco on the lawn. Lewa House also has a large heated swimming pool, overlooking a waterhole, which provides some of the best wildlife viewing on Lewa.

There are two styles of accommodation at Lewa House, family cottages and Earthpods which are built along the hillside, all facing the expanse of wilderness to the north.

Family Cottages

Part of the original house, they were built in the traditional Lewa style with rough stone walls and thatched roofs and have been furnished with beautiful rough-hewn sustainably harvested, hardwood furniture. The cottages have a double and twin room, each with en-suite bathroom. The two bedrooms have a shared veranda where you and your family can sit and enjoy early-morning tea before heading out across the Conservancy.

Earthpods

The Earthpods, designed by Sophie’s father, were built to blend into the landscape and their curved walls create a comfortable atmosphere inside. They can be configured as either a twin or a double room given their spacious nature. The inside bathroom has a shower and bath and three of the Earthpods have an outdoor bath that allows you to bathe under the African sky and lose track of time.

We never exist in isolation. The mosaic of equality is here on Lewa - it means you get the most
amazing variety of wildlife. Living here we develop relationships with animals and it’s amazing to be part of that network.
